Rent prices are a relative term. Cheaper than LA, yes. Here the rents are about $1000 a month for a decent place on the average. Prices are dropping a bit because of investors buying up short sales and foreclosures at bargain basement prices but are finding it hard to find good tenants for that price. Buying a property is the best way to go. Things to do never ends in Vegas. You should never get bored. Locals get all kinds of special deals on all things at the locals casinos. Crime is everywhere you go. It is below places like LA and NY but like most big cities it is here. The thing is there are no jobs here to be had. In another question listed here some girl says she moved here and landed a great job within two weeks. Either she is telling a story or she is a stripper. lol. |

It's similar to all other large US cities in that there are nice neighborhoods (Summerlin) and really nasty neighborhoods (cruise East Fremont Street from Las Vegas Blvd. to Eastern Ave.) with most areas being in between the two extremes. As a tourist destination, there's always something to do on the strip. And since Las Vegas is basically in the middle of nowhere, there's more outdoor wilderness type stuff available than in cities like Seattle where you have miles and miles of strip malls and suburbs. There's mountain skiing and hiking, water activities on Lake Mead, desert adventures to explore like ghost towns and the petroglyphs in Sloan Canyon. There's Area 51 and Red Rock Canyon. |

This is Las Vegas and yes there is crime. How much depends on what area of Vegas you decide to live in. I've been here just over 7 months and I live in a beautiful area, the Summerlin community, but don't let that fool you because there is still crime everywhere you go. Just less of it in some areas. While I haven't had anybody try to mug me, I have had my car broken into. They broke the passenger window and stole my car radio. So yeah, guess I'd better get a car alarm on my car and one for my condo too. Other than that, I've been having a great time here, lots of entertainment, lots of great shopping and things to do. Fortunately, I've only run into good people and been treated nicely. Living is cheap and I don't spend near as much on gas as when I was in California. People here keep complaining about the bad traffic, but the traffic here is a joke compared to California so I don't see the problem. lol |

I think it is actually. las vegas is pretty much only known for the casinos, but there are suburbs just like any other city and i've heard it's actually a nice place to live. if you like the desert lol. |

There is quite a bit of crime in Nevada. It's the state with the highest violent crime rate in the country. There is crime all over the US. And that's especially true in Las Vegas. If you stay on the Strip, you should be fine. That's probably the safest part of the city. Las Vegas is a nice place to visit. But I wouldn't want to live there unless I was a multi-millionaire. |
