basically, I am a female travelling on her own, and I would like to fly to capetown. when I am there, I would like maybe to book some day tours to natural parks etc. the thing is that I don't know if I should book only my flight there, or also the hotel. I want to go for 9 10 days, but i don't know if I should book the hotel for 8 9 days and from there do one day tours. i wish I can hire a car and drive but i don't really drive on the left hand side and I am scared to drive alone as a single female.would you please have any recommendation about how to arrange my holiday once there? are there any tour operators that done one day tour or as a signle female is that better if i book a tour for a few days? for example, i would like to visit the garden route, but i am not sure If i can book so late if say i book a flight tomorow.thanks

Anybody of thinking on holiday in South-Africa ?
I have just returned from SA. We went down to the Transkei and had such a good time. The locals there are so friendly and very helpful. We went to Silaka reserve, if you are interested in birds, beautiful beaches, fishing and just generally have a good time go there. We ate at the Ghecko Moon, quite expensive but delicious food. There pizza's are the best and it is the only decent restaurant in that area. It was brilliant, just thought i would tell you that it was as safe as anything there and am still alive. Go and enjoy , just make sure you have enough pounds things are quite expensive in SA at the moment and when they find out you are from UK they double charge. But Silaka was cheap.

What were the holidays in South Africa before apartheid?
I want to do a presentation about how the establishing of the seven or are they twelve? new holidays aims to promote unity. To be effective, I need to discuss the divisive nature of the previous holiday calendar. I have only been able to get a few holidays. Thanks, Tony J., for pointing me to wikipedia they always bail us out, don't they? Now my question is Why was Union Day 1910 1960 changed to Republic Day 1961 1993 ? Why did they need both a Queen's Birthday 1952 1960 birthday and a King's Birthday 1910 1951 ? Or were these celebrated according to the occupancy of the British throne?Kruger Day 1952 1993 does that celebrate Paul Kruger's role in defending Africaaner interests in SA? Dingaan's Day 1910 1951 wasn't he the one who first ceded lands and then carried out the Blood River slaughter? What was the original intention there? Day of the Covenant 1952 1979 , Day of the Vow 1979 1993 ?Could someone fill me in?
