Anybody of thinking on holiday in South-Africa ?
I have just returned from SA. We went down to the Transkei and had such a good time. The locals there are so friendly and very helpful. We went to Silaka reserve, if you are interested in birds, beautiful beaches, fishing and just generally have a good time go there. We ate at the Ghecko Moon, quite expensive but delicious food. There pizza's are the best and it is the only decent restaurant in that area. It was brilliant, just thought i would tell you that it was as safe as anything there and am still alive. Go and enjoy , just make sure you have enough pounds things are quite expensive in SA at the moment and when they find out you are from UK they double charge. But Silaka was cheap.

Holiday in South Africa?
Hey. In September my family and I are heading to SA for 3 weeks. We are flying into Joburg, staying there a night. Driving to Kruger, styaing there a few nights. Then driving down to Durban. Staying with friends. Driving down the coast through Port Elezibeth all the way over to Capetown and flying out of Capetown. What is there to see and do on the way? I'm 16 by the way. Also how safe is it? Are there certain roads to avoid because of car jackings? We recently returned from a holiday in New Zealand. We drove at night, stopped in at random towns at motels and that. I'm guessing it's not that safe in SA. What do we do? Is it worth the visit? Thanks in advance

Holiday in South Africa?
I often hear South Africans promoting holidays in South Africa without a mention of the crime, or alternatively they say " yes we have crime, but so does everywhere else" .youtube.com watch?v 9zKqilYfBEIAre the South Africans who promote South Africa without mentioning the crime or advice on ways for tourists to keep safe on their holidays part of the 2 % that think that crime is not out of control, because they surely can t be part of the 98 % who think that crime is totally out of control?" It s not O.K. for us but ssssshhhhh don t mention it to the tourists because our economy revolves around them." Is this a healthy sustainable attitude in the new South Africa, or could this backfire with dire consequences?Of course this is an interesting situation, as in order for something to be done about crime it needs to be highlighted, however highlighting the issue may cause the tourism industry and therefore the country to lose a lot of money. Will things get better on their own?Could things backfire on South Africa if too many tourists get attacked during the run up to and including the world cup? Some interesting arguments, and I hear the issues raised by shirl c, dee dee and jade monk..I m not convinced though that more tourism will solve the crime and poverty issues. We see our neighbour Zimbabwe which has 80 % unemployment and a lot more poverty problems than South Africa and yet South Africa which has a much stronger economy and less poverty sees more crime?

Are there reliable ATM cash machines in the southern areas of south Africa? If so, does anyone know where i can get a detailed map of where the machine is located. I might be traveling the county soon and am planning my routes but don't want to be stuck without cash for days on end. From what I can gather, you may only see one ATM for days on end....
