Question: Why the need for a disclaimer ?
(Posted by: Black Hawk on 2009-06-15 19:03:07)
The disclaimer tag seems to be making a trend lately. What do we need a disclaimer for? Jangan marah, , , Disclaimers are suppose to be in the smallest possible font and in a tricky grammar difficult to understand, as in those of the banks, insurers, telcos, contracts, etc. They are not meant to be there, let alone be read or understand by the reader but they are suppose to be there when any argument arise. edit: I mean why the need for a disclaimer in Yahoo Answer.... |

It is an attempt for being not responsible, or to get out of responsibility, for what you have said or done, or services provided ...... Disclamiers are used in YAM so you do not get into trouble for answers which are the truth, half truth or false all together .....and for argueing that you should not be reported nor your account cancelled nor suspended.... |

The need for them being so that companies or individuals can "try " to protect themselves when some idiot burns themselves with obviously hot coffee and then sues because they got burned. That is why products have to say caution: hot coffee, or caution small parts choking hazard, etc. Even on your own personal property for instance. Let's say you have a dog, it can be the sweetest dog in the world. You should get a "beware of dog " sign just in case a would be trespasser should happen to get bit. You at least have a disclaimer stating that there is a dog on the premises. People are too sue happy these days. |

I take disclaimers as a sort of protectionary clause in unforeseen circumstances. Y'know just in case for legal purposes. I mean it is necessary & Yahoo! is a pretty large corporation. |

Disclaimers, as its main purpose, are to prevent oneself from being summoned for the lack of duty of care on their part. So, why should they put it clearly then? Anyway, legally, it shouldn’t be written too small in size. |
